Granny Smith Festival 2016
Mel and Caitlyn hit up the City of Ryde‘s 31st annual Granny Smith Festival on the 15th October, to help celebrate the life and legacy of Maria Ann Smith – aka Granny Smith – who, back in 1868, ‘accidentally’ grew the first batch of little green apples that bear her name and are now grown all over the world.
The Granny Smith Festival began in 1985 and is now regarded as one of Sydney’s largest street festivals, a true community carnival, full of colour and good old fashioned fun. It attracts over 90,000 each year and is supported by local businesses, sporting and service organisations, schools and the wider community.
The SpinJoy hula hoop squad entertained the little ones in the Kid Zone from 12pm – 2pm, with stacks and stacks of hula hoops and the sickest hoop dance tricks around. They then roved through the streets of Eastwood, among the thousands of festival attendees until sundown when they light up the night with their LED hula hoop display.
Check out the video below of some of the LED hula hoop dance action from the evening. Caitlyn even got the pleasure of jumping on stage with 2016’s The Voice superstar duo, Nada and Jasmine and their band Party Rock People!
